Global Diagnostics Sonographer Wins Researcher of the Year Award
Dr Afrooz Najafzadeh, Senior Sonographer at Global Diagnostics, was recently awarded Australasian Sonographers Association Researcher of the Year for her research in the impact of symptoms of maternal depression and anxiety in mid pregnancy on the feto-placental circulation.
Dr Najafzadeh implemented and completed the ultrasound aspect of The Peel Child Health Study (www.peelchildhealthstudy.com.au) in collaboration with Murdoch University and the University of Western Australia. The Peel Child Health Study was a research study to see how newborns born to families in the Peel Region respond to their environment and grow into healthy children.
Dr Najafzadeh also won the Best Research Presentation at this year’s Australasian Society of Sonographers (ASA) annual conference with her presentation “Maternal stress and preterm birth, biological and vascular mechanisms.”
Dr Najafzadeh is the 1st accredited Medical Sonographer in Western Australia to obtain a PhD. She has won many other awards, and is currently working on more publications from the findings of her PhD research.
