Global Diagnostics to provide new Mobile MRI service for remote Western Australia

In February 2017 Global Diagnostics will commence the first mobile Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) service to remote Western Australia, servicing the Pilbara and Kimberly regions.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a test that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to make pictures of organs and structures inside the body. In many cases, MRI gives different information about structures in the body that cannot be seen with an X-ray, ultrasound, or computed tomography (CT) scan.

MRI imaging is used for many reasons. The main uses of MRI are for knee injuries, brain diseases and spine complaints such as pinched nerves or after an injury.  It can be used to find problems such as bleeding, infections, blood vessel disease and tumours.

Initially the MRI will be located in Port Hedland, to service the Pilbara region, and then will be moved to Broome, to service the Kimberley region. The mobility and versatility of this machine means it can be moved as demand is required.

Paul McCrow, General Manager at Global Diagnostics states “Global Diagnostics has been providing radiology services to remote and rural Western Australia for 19 years. We are excited to be able to provide the next level of healthcare service through a gold standard diagnostic imaging service to people who have not had an opportunity before due to their remote location.”

The provision of this service will mean that patients will no longer have to travel huge distances to get MRI scans and patients who cannot travel, will now have access.

Global Diagnostics is a leading provider of diagnostic medical imaging services especially to rural/remote regions of WA. We have always been at the forefront of technological advancement embracing world class technologies to provide the highest quality radiology reporting and consultancy services to patients, referrers and our healthcare partners.
